27 Dec People, Planet and Profits: Envisioning Your Triple Bottom Line in 2020
Customers care about it. Investors demand it. And your employees – and potential employees – insist on it. We are talking about the Triple Bottom Line – people, planet and profits. Many years ago it was a novelty, then it was seen as admirable. Today it is standard operating procedure for most companies.
Sometimes called Corporate Social Responsibility, or CSR, the Triple Bottom Line is the commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of their workforce, families, the environment and their local communities.
People who know PRC know that this is something we feel passionate about. We look at it like a three-legged stool – all three goals must be supported equally to achieve balance. Our greatest satisfaction is progressing our own Triple Bottom Line goals and working with companies that integrate these practices into their strategic planning, leadership and team building practices.
Take a few moments to envision how you and your team can successfully support a triple bottom line. Here are a few questions to get you started:
- How will you support your people? What are your development goals for your organization or your team? What new skills or upskills will you offer in 2020? How will you make learning a priority? How will you make learning easier to access for your people?
- How will you support the planet? Climate change is real and we are at a crossroads for how we change our environmental impact. How can you improve your internal practices to reduce your climate effect? Can you use your purchasing influence to make the same demands of your suppliers and partners?
- How will you support profits? How will you grow your business in 2020? Can you develop and launch a new product or service? Can you expand geographically? Is this the time to explore a new vertical market? How can you grow your social media reach?
Good luck with your Triple Bottom Line goal-setting for 2020! Wishing you a safe and merry holiday season, from everyone at Powers Resource Center.
